NBD - Week 13 Review B

There's actual NFL football happening right now, but I'm not done with last week's re-caps, nor do I get the NFL Network. So as far as I'm concerned, it's still Week 13.

The Death Panel (103) defeats Deuceburger (82)
Remember years ago, when Elliott told me a few days before the draft that he had no intention of drafting rookie Adrian Peterson, and then wasted no time in drafting and subsequently keeping him? From that day on, I developed a hatred for AD that burned bright and strong. During Peterson's first season, I eagerly awaited what I thought to be an inevitable injury, even predicting decapitation at the hands of Sean Taylor (sadly, Taylor himself died that year). His second season, I quietly began to admit (if only to myself) that Peterson was a pretty incredible phenomenon as a football player, and that there might be something redeeming about him. This year, he ended up on Kex's team, a far less odious franchise than Elliott's, and a far lesser threat as an opponent. And while Peterson did score 16 points in a Week 2 victory over me, he could have done far more considering that he was playing the Lions. And this week? Well, let's just say I have lain my disdian for All Day (7 pts) aside. With Purple Jesus underperforming, Deuceburger was forced to look elsewhere for production. Jonathan Stewart (19) did have a Petersonesque day, but the only other player to step up for Manning was the Denver defense (12). Even the usually reliable Matt Schaub (12) was underwhelming, and with him being the third-highest scorer for his team, the door was wide open for a Death Panel romp. And romp we did, mostly thanks to the passing game: Drew Brees (24) led the team, with Chad Ochocinco (20) and Andre Johnson (16) completing the rout.

Burke City Giants (120) defeat Woody's Warriors (93)
Sherwood's team was the highest-scoring of those not making the playoffs this year, and though he knew going into this week that he was already mathematically out of the post-season, it would have made a statement for him to take out the Giants this week. It also would have helped my playoff seeding and set the table for two father-son match-ups in round 1. Unfortunately, none of these things happened, as Woody could not even be bothered to insert an active running back (as opposed to Michael Turner, 0) into his line-up. Then again, no back-up RB or waiver wire acquisition was likely to close the margin of victory here, provided by Brandon Jacobs' biggest day of the year (23) and an oustanding performance from the Eagles defense (18). It would be pretty fucking annoying if, after mocking Michael's acquisition of Jacobs earlier in the season, the big man went on a big run here in December and led Michael to a title. Which means it'll probably happen. Anyway, Jacobs and Philly, along with Wes Welker (17) and Peyton Manning (15) held off a Warrior attack led by Knowshon Moreno (21) and Antonio Gates (17).

Beaten by the Titans defense. Good acquisition Elliott. Frank Gore did everything last night but kick the three field goals I needed. Ron Jeremy (my 2010 team name) says, "next year".
